PRIISM: Preventing Resistance and Infection by Integrating Systems in Michigan

THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE PRIISM PROJECT!

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Nursing homes are crucial for meeting the short-stay and long-term care needs of older adults in the US healthcare system. Increasingly, many individuals transition from hospitals to nursing homes to complete their recovery from serious health events as post-acute care patients. This AHRQ R01 funded project (PI: Mody) aims to develop a robust, integrated infection prevention program leveraging the increasingly close relationship between hospitals and their preferred referral nursing homes. This partnership is critical to prevent infections, decrease the use of antimicrobials, implement evidence-based policies to reduce multidrug-resistant organisms, and enhance resident safety.

"PRIISM increased our knowledge with the education we received. It was well organized and educational. I would strongly recommend this committee to all nursing facilities." -Linda W., RN

"Thank you for inspiring continued work with infection control and the need to improve surveillance and care, and for championing hand hygiene and the correct use of antibiotics. At times the scads of paperwork tend to keep these goals from sight, but your seminars and group meetings have really served to refresh and invigorate."
